  • This Short Break Adventure is a ‘join in’ group departure, which means for some portions of this trip, such as at the homestay, you may join-in with other travellers who have booked through other companies.
  • This trip includes 1 nights in simple homestay accommodation, which is the way to better understand a country and its people. You will sleep on mattresses on the floor in a mixed-gender dormitory style, and bathrooms will be shared.
  • With the flexibility of frequent departures, there is a chance you may end up travelling solo on this trip. You will always have a local guide and all included activities will remain the same.
  • The overnight sleeper train journey to and from Lao Cai is in 4-6 berth sleeper carriages. In your train compartment, you might be sharing with locals and with other and with other genders.
  • This trip includes a moderate level of hiking in the hills for 3 days of this trip, ranging from 3 to 6 hours. Although this hiking is possible for most travellers, a good level of fitness will help increase the experience.

Day 1: Hanoi

Xin chao! Welcome to Vietnam. Your adventure begins at the airport, meet your local guide before heading to your day-use hotel room to refresh before your adventure starts. According to your arrival time, your local guide will give you some tips to discover the charm of Hanoi. Get gathered again, heading out for
your dinner before catching the night train for Sapa.
In any free time, dive into the barrage of bikes, boulevards and bustling life that characterise Hanoi.

Notes: Please allow plenty of time to board the train. Your local guide will be able to give you information about what time boarding will commence.

Day 2: Sapa

Upon your arrival to Lao Cai train-station, you will refresh yourself in the special lounge, take a light breakfast before taking your transfer to Sapa. Upon your arrival to Sapa-O Chau Café, you will meet your local guide, this person, living in the area, will take care of you for the next few days, during your stay in Sapa.

Depart from the Sapa O’Chau Cafe at 9.30am and walk down to Y Linh Ho, a village of the Hmong minority.

The hereditary terraces are around 100 years old. From Y Linh Ho we will make our way to Lao Chai, an established Hmong village where will be welcomed by Mai and her family who run the first and only homestay owned by Hmong in the Sapa region.

Day 3: Sapa

On the morning of the second day open the window and have a look outside — you will be treated to views across the rice terraces. After breakfast walk to Ta Van where you will visit the Giay minority people. Traditionally the Giay were fishermen who fished with bamboo sticks and cook their catch inside the bamboo. Now you are more likely to see the Giay working in fields planting or harvesting rice but their villages are still near rivers. Continue to walk through a bamboo forest to Giang Ta Chai, have a scenic picnic lunch, then walk to the main road and catch the private car back to Sapa Town!

Day 4: Sapa
We begin the day with a 3km trek through breathtaking landscapes to the village of Suoi Ho, home to Hmong minority. From here you can enjoy views over endless rice terraces, and you will have the opportunity to see some of the animals used by the locals. Continuing on to Matra village you will come across the impressive ruins of a church dating back to the French occupation in the early 1900s. Take a minute to explore this intriguing sight and take some photos. Trekking to the village of Ta Phin you will be able to meet both Black
Hmong and Red Dao minorities. The Red Dao are known for their expertise in herbal medicine as well as usage of plants from the land to treat many illnesses. Your guide will be able to introduce you to some Red Dao women who can tell you more about their many remedies. A Red Dao herbal medicine bath can be
arranged for you to experience, so please ask. Transport will be provided from Ta Phin back to Sapa.
Later in the day, after refreshing at Sapa-O’Chau café, you will head back to Lao Cai to catch your train back
to Hanoi.

Day 5: Hanoi

Arriving back in Hanoi, you will be taken to the Hong Ngoc Cochinchine Hotel to have your breakfast and refresh before heading to the hotel for your flight back home.
